I won't drag this review out as I'd rather not spend too long thinking about IX for fear of me hurling something heavy through the nearest window. It's fair to say I wasn't too pleased with them.
IX Web Hosting is very cheap, I'll give them that. But no matter how cheap it is, I expect a certain level of service from any hosting provider and IX fell well below acceptable levels of service that should be expected by any serious developer.
My primary complaint would be the control panel they provide. Whoever made it must have had user-friendliness right near the bottom of his list of priorities, just above basic functionality. Navigating it is a chore, and many aspects of the control panel just plain did not work.
If you happened to need some technical help, you could always rely on the friendly Eastern European staff to get back to you in around 2-5 days. Yes that's right, that's how long they take. However should you need to complain that your server is running painfully slow, as I had to frequently, you can expect a reply in just a few hours, in which they disregard anything you say and blame it on your internet connection. I even had several friends all test it, each averaging around 20-40 seconds per page load, but still it was everyone else's fault but theirs. To their credit, they were always very polite whilst patronising me in their broken English it must be said.
Their server set up was somewhat of an annoyance for me too, as they ran PHP as a CGI module which of course spawns the dreaded 'No input file specified' error rather than a 404 for non-existent PHP files. This could be fixed with a couple of lines in a .htaccess, but this conflicted with the rest of my URL rewriting system and I was forced to be content with the possibility of visitors being confronted with the problem and likely closing the window and never coming back. Ok, that's not all of their fault, but leaving a glaring blight like that for the customer to worry about and doing nothing about it themselves is.
Despite the low cost, IX Web Hosting offers very little value for money, and the only recommendation for it that I can make would be to steer clear.
